LITURGY TEAM REPORT

Meeting of February 12, 2007

Attendees:              Sandy Byrnes, Janice Dec, Dave Ebner, Father John, Chris Lunsford,

Larry Matheny, Jacqueline Scaletti, Joyce Seng, Domenic Turchi

Notes/Minutes:

Ø      Janice suggested we need to add the more religious events to the Ordo, i.e., February 2 was Candlemass Day; February 3  was St. Blaise and the blessing of throats, etc.  Father suggested these events are noted on the “funeral home” calendars handed out at the first of each year.  Janice indicated there are still some 2007 calendars in the sacristy for our use going forward.

Ø      February 18 after the 8:00 a.m. mass Father John will burn last years palms.

Janice has the container we will use; Dave will be present with a lighter to assist.

Ø      Beginning February 22, and every Thursday during lent thereafter (2/22, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22, 3/29) the following changes will be made:

o   7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Harry Ford (Justice & mercy Program) change to SH

o   7:30 – 9:00 p.m.  St. Ignatius Prayer Group change to the CC

Ø      Beginning February 25, until further notice, every 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass should indicate RCIA DISMISSAL

Ø      March 5, from 9:00 -10:30 a.m. should reference Holy Dustbusters CH

Ø      March 18, there will not be a Contemporary Ensemble CH @ 11:15 a.m.

·         Lenten Celebration Team Report:  The team has developed the information required for Ash Wednesday and each of the weekends for lent.  This information has been forwarded to Lori.  The Lenten mailing has been completed and will be mailed to each parishioner at the end of this week. The confirmation group will be preparing a bulletin item for each weekend of lent based on the readings for the week.  In general, the Lenten Celebration team is “on plan”.

NOTE:  The Lenten mailing has an article in it titled “Where’s the Holy Water?”   This             assumed we would cover/empty the holy water fonts during Lent.  Larry suggested we             should continue to provide holy water through Lent.  Everyone agreed we need to be             consistent in the mailing and our actions.

Therefore, on Tuesday, Gloria/Janice would see if we could obtain more of the purple             paper used to print the mailing.  If so, we would remove the “Where’s the Holy Water?”             article, and in practice, provide holy water in fonts during Lent.  In the place of the       article, Joyce suggested we simply enter ADGM: what do these letters mean?

If we cannot obtain more purple paper to reprint the mailing, then we would likely mail             as is, and to be consistent, remove/empty the holy water fonts during Lent.

·         Old Business:

Ø      Blessing of Throats:  all felt this went well.

Ø      Fire Drill and Church Etiquette Brochure:  all felt this went well.

Ø      Status of artwork from returned Lenten nails:  Due to business conflicts George Reggio has not begun the project, but does intend to do the work for us.  At this time though, he cannot commit to a completion date.  Janice mentioned there were extra nails at the Ijamsville Church, and she would give to Joyce, who in turn would take to George.

Ø      RCIA – Readings to be used during Lent will be those of Cycle C.

Ø      EM’s – Status of recommitment effort and training head EM’s – no further progress at this time.  Domenic will continue to develop the plan.

Ø      Procession of Liturgy Ministers into Church … plan continues to be developed.

Ø      Liturgical Ministers praying before Mass … most likely at the Music Ministry area.  No definitive date as to when this will begin.

·         New Business

Ø      Joyce requested that for the six, Saturday’s of Lent that it be announced who will say the rosary and which mystery will be prayed immediately following the 5:30 p.m. Mass.

Ø      Joyce has prepared banners for Lent to be hung at the back of the Ijamsville Church as well as the alcoves.

Ø      For the Easter Vigil, the format will be the same as last year … 5 readings.  There will not be any baptisms, or any new members being welcomed into the Church.  It was suggested though that those in the RCIA could bring up the water and oils, have their feet washed on Holy Thursday, etc.  However, having the RCIA be lectors was not thought to be appropriate.  The RCIA candidates should be seated in one area and recognized during the vigil before the congregation.

Ø      Minister Sign-up Binder for Easter Week will be available beginning this weekend.  All Lead Ministers are asked to communicate with their people and ask that they sign up where they are able to assist.

Ø      We will need people to volunteer to assist with preparations of supplies and people for Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday 3:00 p.m. Stations of the Cross, Good Friday 7:30 p.m. and the Easter Vigil.

o  Palm Sunday …. 2 people needed

o  Holy Thursday  … Teresa, Janice, Dave & Georgene Ebner

o  Good Friday Stations … Bill C. and 1 person needed

o  Good Friday 7:30 p.m. … 2 people needed

o  Easter Vigil …… 2 people needed

Ø      Easter Vigil and 10:00 Easter Sunday Mass will offer both species for communion.  We need to plan to add 2 additional bread and 2 additional cup stations.  All other Masses, both in the CH and SH will offer only one species, but use the same number of ministers, in effect, doubling the number of stations.

Ø      The Evangelization Committee has expressed a desire to establish a remembrance area in the Ijamsville Church for those serving in the Armed Forces.  Details to be advised.

Ø      Altar Servers:  three new servers were trained in January and be available for the next Ministry Schedule.  We also were informed two of our current servers will no longer be available.

Ø      Ushers:  Chris indicated that one usher will position him/herself in the narthex during the readings to prevent parishioners from entering the Church and disrupting the congregation.

Ø      Music Ministry:  Sandy mentioned that worship aids will need to be distributed and collected each week of Lent.

Ø      For Lent, the cantor will announce at the beginning of Mass “Please stand in silence.”  There will be no opening hymn.  The priest, led by the cross bearer will process into the Church in silence.

Ø      It has been decided we will kneel for the penitential rite.

Ø      Per Father John, we expect to break ground in August the new building / offices.
